Robots!
Today, I had the distinct honor of being the judge for a LEGO robotics competition that was organized by some people at a GM manufacturing plant near where I work in Wentzville, MO. There were 10 teams made up of 5-6 middle school/high school kids. They had to build a robot that could stack Oreo cookies. It sounds simple, but, believe me, it’s a lot more complicated than it sounds. Anyway, all the teams did a great job for only having 6 weeks to work on this project. Competitions like this are a great way to get kids interested in technology and the technology behind technology. I mean, the GM plant in Wentzville manufactures full-size vans, like 18-passenger vans. That plant uses over 500 robots just like the kids were designing — only a lot bigger and made out of metal! It was really awesome to be able to be a judge for that competition and get a glimpse of the future of engineering. And judging from today, that future’s pretty bright.
welcome to the blogosphere.
that sounds like so much fun!
I hope to see the pictures soon! That sound soo cool. I have talked to people that build things like that but doing myself would NEVER happen. I am so glad God made people that want to do things like that and didn’t require all of us to do it.
